WEEKLY MEETING....WHAT IS INVOLVED?

Unless otherwise indicated the Cub Pack meets Monday evenings from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM at Islington United Church in the Stewart East Hall (Gym). The Church is located at 25 Burnhamthorpe Road in Etobicoke (At the corner of Dundas and Burnhamthorpe)

PARENTAL OBJECTIVES AND LEADERSHIP OBJECTlVES AS TO PROGRAM

In short the Cub Program, running along established Scouting Guidelines has been structured to complement your efforts as parents to raise responsible, happy, and successful members of our community.

WHAT DO CUBS DO?

From a kids perspective, they want to experience adventure in a positive environment, to have fun, to feel that they belong and to make new friends.

Our program meets and often exceeds the kids' needs through exciting and varied weekly meetings (games, badge program, crafts, acting, songs and more), group outings for example ROM, Science Center, CBC, Fire Hall, Police Station. Our Group participates in many of the Old Mill Area events such as Bowling, Church Services, Kub Kar Rally, Hikes, and the Cuboree.

WHO CAN JOIN ?

Any interested child between the ages of 8 and 10. Confidential financial assistance is available upon request of the Group Committee as no child will be denied the opportunity to participate in the Cub Program even if family financial resources are not available.

ANY MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS ?

Only that our Cubs fully participate in the program being offered, and that parental support (for example being able to transport Cubs to a special event) is there. We are all volunteers working together so that our children can fully benefit from the program.

MEDICAL FORMS?

You will fill out a medical form for your son or daughter when you register them with the 2nd Etobicoke Cub Pack. It will be your responsibility to advise us of any and all changes. This form will be used for all camps and outings that your child attends.

SPECIAL NEEDS ?

It is imperative that we are aware of any special needs your child has, examples are allergies, asthma, learning difficulties, medication and any thing else that could be pertinent to their ability to function in the Cub Program. If we do not know of these needs, we cannot help them!

IS THERE A UNIFORM TO BE WORN ?

Scouts Canada is a uniformed organization. The uniform helps build a feeling of belonging, pride and self-discipline.

The Cub Uniform that all Cubs of the 2nd Etobicoke Pack are required to wear consists of:

We provide all badges, epaulets, Group neckerchief, and Cub woggle.

Click here for information on purchasing Uniforms.

WILL MY CHILD NEED ANOTHER UNIFORM WHEN HE/SHE IS OF AGE FOR SCOUTS?

Your child will only need to change the sash, and belt (buckle will not change).

WHEN DOES MY CHILD NEED TO WEAR THE UNIFORM ?

Full and complete Cub uniform is required for all activities unless indicated otherwise. (Track Pants can be worn over shorts during cold weather to and from events.) Cubs are required to wear running shoes while involved in indoor activities. Winter boots will not be allowed on the gym floor. Your child will not be allowed to participate in sock feet for safety reasons.

WHAT ABOUT SUPERVISION FOR MY CHILD AND OTHER CUBS ?

Our Cubs are well supervised at all times with of a ratio to 1:6 or better. We have Trained Leaders on the Floor at all meetings and activities. We do not tolerate bullying, fighting and teasing of any kind. If you have any concerns in these matters, please speak to a Leader immediately. Cubs are taught to live by the Cub Law "The Cub respects the Old Wolf, the Cub respects himself".

WHO ARE THE LEADERS?

Leaders are responsible adult members who volunteer their time to run the best possible program for our Cubs, and to have fun while doing so. Leadership is a very rewarding experience and friends are made for life. Good memories of times at camp and within the organization are treasured for many years.

HOW WILL MY CHILD BE TREATED AND LOOKED AFTER ?

Every Cub is an individual and will be treated as such. We measure your child's success not by the number of badges...rather that they did their best in whatever Cub event they were participating in. We will do whatever we can to help every Cub do his best. The opening line of the Cub Promise states:

"l Promise to do my best"

WEEKEND CAMPS?

We hope to have camps three times a year, fall, winter and spring. These camps are held at either Woodland Trails or one of several Scouting Camps in Southern Ontario. Depending on the time of year, the Cubs will be housed in heated lodges which have bunk beds with mattresses or in "tabins" which have wood floors and canvas walls.

We provide detailed kit lists indicating what should be brought to camp. We ask that you please adhere to this list exactly!

WHAT ABOUT INFORMATION ON UPCOMING EVENTS ?

Being informed in a timely manner is very important. Newsletters and equipment lists (what to bring to camp, etc.) are published on a regular basis. You can also check our Group Calendar Pages right here on our website.

WHEN MY CHILD JOINS, DOES HE/SHE HAVE A SPECIAL GROUP THAT HE/SHE BELONGS TO ?

All Cubs belong to a small group of no more than 6 kids called a "Six". Each Six has a Sixer and a Second. These are Cubs who have been elected by their peers after showing leadership abilities. Each September all Cubs are placed into new Sixes. This is done so that all Cubs will have the opportunity to make new friends and overcome new challenges within the Pack. During the year each Six competes for the Best Six of the month. They do this through games, attendance at outings, dress inspection, attitude, badges, stars and points. At the end of the Cub year, the Best Six is taken on a special outing with the Leaders.

WHAT ARE THE FEES TO JOIN ?

Fees are based on the membership fee that Scouts Canada sets for any given year. In addition to the Scouts Canada fee we collect a fee of $20.00 per year based on typical weekly dues of about 50 cents. We collect this fee yearly rather that weekly (this makes budgeting easier for the Leaders). Camp Fees are based on the type of camp and camp theme we will be participating in. (Approximately $40.00 per camp at this time.)

CAN THE PARENTS COME AND SEE WHAT THE CUBS DO?

Yes, we have an open door policy. Parents are welcome to visit or remain for any meeting, to help with outings or special trips. Parents are also invited to all Group Committee Meetings. Check our Group Calendar for the date and time of our next meeting. When you arrive at the Church, confirm our meeting location by checking the Meeting Room Sheet posted at the back door beside the payphone.

NEW MEMBERS ?

All new Cubs and parents wishing to participate in the 2nd Etobicoke Cub Pack should come to a meeting and meet the Leaders and the other Cubs.
