2nd Etobicoke Group Scrapbook

River Banks Clean-Up
September 21, 2002

As a Community Service Project, our Group organized a clean-up of a section of the Mimico Creek between Dundas St. W. and Bloor St. W.

We met at Central Park. After some instructions, off we went!.

After putting on some rubber gloves for protection, the kids picked up everthing they could see and reach along both sides of the creek.

They collected all kinds of food related wrappers, bottles, and plastic bags that had been senselessly disgarded.

It's a dirty job! But somebody has to do it!

While the parents carried the garbage bags, the kids foraged for the garbage in head high weeds and bushes.

Along the way, we took time to notice some of the natural inhabitants of the Creek area.

We also cleaned up around the kids play area.

The kids worked hard. Their efforts were rewared with some pizza and juice.

Mmmmm! This is good!

After 2 hours we collected 8 bags of garbage, a broken tennis racket and a damaged bicycle wheel. The rest of the bike was seen in the creek which we couldn't reach.

Thanks to the youth who came out to help us Clean-up our neighbourhood.
Thanks also to all the parents and leaders who joined us.
